The suspect who police say killed Nicole VanderHeyden of Ledgeview entered a plea of not guilty in Brown County Court.

George Burch, 38, who has a current address in Green Bay but is from Virginia, is accused of murdering Nicole VanderHeyden in May.

According to a criminal complaint, investigators initially matched Burch's DNA to a DNA sample found on a sock on VanderHeyden's body.

At the time of Burch's arrest, investigators took another swab of DNA from Burch. That sample matched more than 16 swabs from VanderHeyden's body and clothes. The complaint said Burch's DNA was also on a black cord found in a neighbor's yard that had VanderHeyden's blood on it.

Court documents also said GPS information on Burch's phone show he was in the area of VanderHeyden's house from around 3-4 a.m. the morning she was murdered, and he later was in the area of the field where her body was found.

The complaint said Burch's phone records also show he looked at a news article about VanderHeyden's murder multiple times the days after her body was found. The documents did not say whether or not Burch and VanderHeyden knew each other, or how they allegedly came into contact that night.

According to that complaint, VanderHeyden's friends said they last saw her leaving a downtown Green Bay bar alone just before 12:30 a.m. the morning she was murdered.

Burch is being held in the Brown County Jail under a $2 million bond. He will be back in court in January.
