Following the death of former First Lady Barbara Bush, a Suamico woman is reflecting on her time spent with the Bush family matriarch.
Peggy Shurmur is the wife of former Packers' Defensive Coordinator Fritz Shurmur. She met Barbara Bush when the former First Lady was a guest speaker at Albion College in Michigan where Fritz received two degrees.
A photographer snapped a photo of Peggy and Bush together during a meet and greet. It now hangs proudly in the hall of Peggy's home. She fondly remembers the conversation she had with the woman she describes as down to earth, funny and caring.
"I just told her how much I admired all the Bushes, because I did, and she said Fritz was somebody to be admired too, and I had to agree."
Peggy said Bush is her favorite first lady of all time because of the wonderful work she did to promote literacy.
Of course, Peggy was sad to learn of Bush's death but knows the 92-year-old was suffering with health problems. Now, she's holding tight to her incredible memory of that chance meeting on a college campus years ago.
