The Bayview Bridge in Sturgeon Bay will close starting March 1st through July 4th. Detours have been set up by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to take drivers into downtown Sturgeon Bay.
The project, approved by Gov. Scott Walker, will provide upgrades and maintain the structure of the bridge. The project is expected to cost $3.6 million dollars.
Improvements include replacing steel beams and joints, reparing concrete and girders, and replacing machinery and electrical components.
Here is a document that outlines the detour route during the construction project.
The goal is to extend the life of the bridge.
The doetur takes drivers through the heart of downtown, and many business owners hope to capitalize on the increasing traffic.
"In terms of the increased traffic, we're delighted. We're in a prime location and we're all about traffic that comes through Door County, and the more people that see us, the better," said Terry Ullman of Door County Candy.
"It will cause some traffic delays, especially as we head into warmer weather into June, and more people head up there," said Mark Kantola, with the WI DOT.
Construction is scheduled to be done by 4th of July weekend.
