Strawberry farmers in northeast Wisconsin battle freezing temperatures

It was a tough couple of nights for strawberry farmers in northeast Wisconsin.

Greiling’s Gardens says they were taken by surprise by Sunday night’s cold.

They spent Sunday and Monday nights in the field trying to save their crop from frost.

Greiling’s irrigates their strawberries and say it’s the most economical way to save the blossom.

"Early berries would be the ones to be concerned about. The later varieties that we've checked the last several days show that they are still in pretty darn good shape," said Neil Greiling.

Not every bud was saved, but the Greilings say they still have the potential of 70,000 pounds of berries in the making.
