MADISON (NBC 26) -- Wisconsin Department of Administration officials announced Thursday they have canceled all tours of the State Capital until further notice.

State officials say this is to ensure the health and safety of both the public and staff in the State Capitol during the potential spread of COVID-19.

Although tours are canceled, according to the DOA the State Capitol will continue normal function. They are continuing efforts to limit the spread of the virus based on guidance from the CDC and DHS Public Health Officials.

It is recommended individuals continue washing hands with soap and water, avoid touching the face with unwashed hands, and avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
