MADISON (WISC) — The latest poll from Quinnipiac University tracking the presidential race in key battleground states shows President Donald Trump leading all potential Democratic candidates by significant margins in Wisconsin.
In the poll conducted between February 12th and February 18th, prior to the most recent Democratic debate, the president led each Democratic candidate by between 7 and 11 percentage points.
The closest candidates in a head-to-head matchup were Senator Bernie Sanders and former Vice President Joe Biden, who trailed the president by 7 percentage points. President Trump came out on top in a hypothetical matchup with Sanders by a margin of 50 percent to 43 percent, while he was ahead of Biden by a margin of 49 percent to 42 percent.
Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who made his first debate appearance the night after the poll was conducted, tied with former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, trailing President Trump by 8 percentage points. The poll found the president leading both by a margin of 49 percent to 41 percent.
The poll also found double-digit leads for President Trump over Senators Elizabeth Warren (51 percent to 41 percent) and Amy Klobuchar (50 percent to 39 percent) in Wisconsin. Voters in the Badger State also give the president a job approval rating of 50 percent, higher than the national average and the average in other battleground states.
While the president appears to be gaining momentum in Wisconsin, the Quinnipiac Poll found him trailing Democrats in other swing states like Pennsylvania and Michigan.
The margin of error for the Wisconsin poll was +/- 3.4%. Of the people polled, 32% identified as Republicans, 26% as Democrats, and 35% as independents. Six percent of people polled identified as a different party or didn’t answer the question.
