EAST TROY, Wis. — Four people are recovering after a small plane crashed into a cornfield in East Troy Sunday afternoon, prompting a response from skydivers, first responders and nearby neighbors.
The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. in a field near Carver School Road, just south of the East Troy airport, according to East Troy Fire and Rescue.

Skydivers with Skydive Milwaukee were the first to spot the crash, and some jumped in to help, according to fire officials.
Three of the plane's four occupants were taken to the hospital for medical evaluation.
The fourth was assessed and released at the scene, according to a joint statement from East Troy police and fire officials.
Dean and Graham Adsit were working on their combines when they noticed squad cars moving back and forth.
"Figured they lost a parachuter, but one of the fire chiefs said 'no, we're looking for an airplane that went down,'" Graham Adsit said.
When they learned a plane had crashed, Graham Adsit grabbed a tractor in case there was a fire.
"It's been wet, but crop is getting dry," Graham Adsit said. "I was concerned that if there was a survivor, they were going to burn."
He said he was prepared to help extinguish any flames, but there was no smoke.
Responding agencies included East Troy Fire and Rescue, the Walworth County Sheriff's Office, the Town of East Troy Police Department and the Village of East Troy Police Department.
"Great teamwork is what I saw," Graham Adsit said. "I saw a lot of people coordinating very quickly."
Neighbors said they were grateful the crash was not worse.
"Faith and hope and good neighbors bring out the best in humanity," Graham Adsit said.

“We are aware of the plane crash that occurred just south of our facility yesterday. We want to confirm that the plane involved was not associated with Skydive Milwaukee.
A few members of our skydiving community who are trained EMTs were already airborne in our jump plane and jumped out to assist at the scene, which was difficult to access from the road. We’re grateful they were able to help when they were needed."
The Federal Aviation Administration is now leading the investigation in coordination with the Town of East Troy Police Department.
Officials said they will release additional information as the investigation continues.
