MADISON (WISC) — A food fight broke out early Tuesday morning after a gas station clerk confronted a woman who was seen concealing multiple food items in her jacket, according to an incident report.
Police said the store clerk saw 36-year-old Shacole G. Burks open a bag of Combos and begin eating them while hiding other snacks in her jacket. When Burks walked to the register to pay for a sticky bun, the clerk confronted her about the Combos and other snacks Burks had allegedly hidden. According to the incident report, Burks threw the sticky bun at the clerk. The clerk then grabbed the sweet treat and threw it back at Burks.
A witness who was outside saw a Madison police squad car and flagged it down, telling the officer what was happening inside. As the officer looked to see what the commotion was, Burks allegedly pulled down a display of baked goods, scattering them across the floor.
During the arrest, Burks reportedly denied stealing or eating anything, but the officer pointed out she had crumbs on her lips. According to police, Burks admitted to eating some Combos with the intention of paying for them. Before she was taken to jail, police searched Burks and found a pack of cookies and two beef sticks hidden in her coat.
Burks was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, resisting/obstructing, felony bail jumping and on four warrants.
