DNR biologist finds over 100 salamanders in her window wells

A DNR biologist found more than 100 young tiger salamanders in the window wells of her house. The Wisconsin DNR shared photos of the salamanders on Facebook.

The DNR said salamanders begin to grow into adults in August, which means they begin to move away from ponds and can sometimes wander into people’s homes.

The Wisconsin DNR is reminding the public to start checking your window wells daily, especially after rain. If you find any salamanders, you are asked to get them to a safer place away from the building.

You can also leave a board in your window wells, propped up like a ramp, to help the little guys get out.
