A Wisconsin assistant attorney general is asking a judge to deny Steven Avery's motion to be released on bond. Avery filed the appeal in early January citing an illegal search of his property and that a juror was influenced into voting guilty.
The Department of Justice responded to that appeal January 19th. In a letter filed with the appellate court, Assistant Attorney General Thomas Fallon writes, "he has nothing left to lose" and is a flight risk. He says Avery has appealed his conviction before and failed.
Avery and his nephew, Brendan Dassey, are serving life sentences for the death of Teresa Halbach.
The 2005 case has been in the headlines after the wildly popular Netflix series, Making a Murderer, was released.
