Appleton and Grand Chute police departments worked together on a series of robbery investigations for incidents occurring early in 2016. A suspect was convicted for two of those robberies Monday.
During the investigation into the robberies, social media was used several times to put out surveillance photos of the suspect and a vehicle associated with the suspect. Those posts created a situation for the suspect that police say led to his conviction.
After seeing social media posts, the suspect called investigators to admit he had been involved in multiple gas drive-offs throughout the Fox Valley. Investigators used his admission to work toward proving the suspect’s involvement in robberies at Walgreens store at 729 W. Northland Avenue on Jan. 13 and La Quinta Inn & Suites at 3800 W. College Avenue on Jan. 25. He was arrested for the robberies on Feb. 8.
Justin Posey, 42 formerly of Kaukauna, was sentenced in Outagamie County Court for two robberies. Judge Biskupic sentenced Posey to six years of initial confinement with eight years of extended supervision for the Walgreen’s robbery. He also sentenced Posey to six years and six months of initial confinement with eight years of extended supervision for the LaQuinta robbery. The sentences are consecutive to each other. Posey will also be sentenced in Winnebago County Court for a robbery he committed in September 2015 in Menasha.
A series of additional robberies, which occurred during this same time frame, were also solved by investigators of the Appleton and Grand Chute police departments. The suspect in the robberies of Cartridge World, Secrets Lingerie, Zza Odyssey Pizzeria and an attempted robbery of Family Dollar, will be going to a jury trial within the next few months.
