Snow Storms Mean Injury Spikes

ASHWAUBENON -- An overnight snowstorm  means a day of shoveling.

For Ron Fletcher it's not so bad, he started at three o’clock this morning. “It was something to do” says Fletcher.

Little by little he's clearing the snow, making sure he takes his time.

“I've got two bad arms so i just take it slow” the Ashwaubenon resident says.

Taking it slow is one way to go, Dr Matthew Nelson at HSHS St Vincent Hospital says shoveling can be a danger for some, especially if they do it wrong.

“The proper way is to squat down bend your legs and shovel that way” says Dr Nelson

But even when doing it right, there are other risks like overheating because of heart conditions or blood pressure.

But the most common injury is because of snow blower mishaps: hand, finger and foot injuries.
