DE PERE, Wis.- A snow morning is an early morning for Jim Gamble. He's the manager of the Lamers school bus De Pere terminal.
"Some of the managers from the various terminals in the area go out and actually physically drive the roads," said Gamble.
Up before 5:00 in the morning to determine whether it's safe for buses to be out picking up kids, but it's more than that he says.
"There's a lot of kids that have to walk to school and I mean if sidewalks and roads aren't done that puts them in jeopardy," said Gamble.
School bus companies contact the superintendents and tell them what they think of road conditions. Many times if bussing managers feel it's unsafe, the school superintendents will delay or even cancel classes.
"You know they give a great deal of thought because we also understand it makes it difficult for families and parents," said Gamble.
The delay gave road crews just enough time to clear things up.
"It's tough to get it all cleared in time," said Brown County interim public works director, Paul Fontecchio.
The clean-up will continue for days yet.
"We'll spend another day or two cleaning up afterwards, widening the shoulders out and cleaning along those jersey barrier walls along 41," explained Fontecchio.
