Over the course of the past week Shawano County deputies and detectives have arrested six men for allegedly using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime, according to a press release from the sheriff's department. These arrests came after the suspects contacted undercover deputies; believing they were communicating with children under the age of 16 and that they were going to be meeting with them to have sexual encounters.
During this operation all six men were arrested, without incident, after arriving for the meetings they had arranged. During this operation deputies also encountered other alleged violations on the part of one suspect including: attempted delivery of a schedule 2 drug and possession of marijuana, other suspects received citations for both operating after suspension and operating after revocation. It is also noteworthy that one suspect arrested during this operation is currently on the sex offender registry. These operations began about two years ago and about 35 individuals have been arrested.
Those arrested recently include a 25-year-old Pulaski man, a 26-year-old Cecil man, a 20-year-old Green Bay man, a 46-year-old Oshkosh man, a 31-year-old Waupaca man and a 22-year-old Hobart man. Allegations have been forwarded to the Shawano County District Attorney requesting formal charges and the investigation into these incidents continues to determine if additional violations of law have occurred. Detectives and deputies were assisted by the Shawano Police Department.
The investigation and arrests of these individuals on probable cause demonstrates the need to remain vigilant in our region, with two of the six suspects residing in Shawano County and the others living within easy traveling distance.
