Santa Barbara County, CA -- The Sherpa fire in Southern California continued to grow Friday morning and homes remained evacuated for the second night in a row.
The California Highway Patrol again shut down roads as smoke and flames from the out-of-control wildfire approached the highway.
The closures came as hundreds of firefighters continued to work around the clock on the fire burning in southern Santa Barbara County.
The blaze has now burned approximately 1,700 acres and is still growing, according to fire officials.
Witnesses have spotted what's commonly referred to as a firenado as high winds continued to make fighting and predicting the fire difficult.
So far there have been no reports of structures damaged by the fire, but more than 100 homes are in danger.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
