The Shawano County Sheriff's Office reports that two credit card skimmers were located in the City of Shawano on Friday, November 25.
One of the skimmers was found at Premier Bank and the other was found at CoVantage Credit Union on Main Street.
With credit card skimmers reported in parts of Green Bay as well, the Shawano County Sheriff's Office is asking the community to be alert and report anything suspicious.
"The best way to identify a skimmer at a glance is to see if the green area is translucent," Sheriff Bieber explained.
Deputies are checking locations around Shawano County for skimmers, but they also ask that business owners be on the lookout.
"We encourage business owners to check ATM's and gas pumps on their property," Bieber said.
To avoid becoming a victim, authorities recommend:
• Closely monitoring bank account transactions and reporting fraudulent activity to your banking institution in a timely manner
• Paying inside the gas station
• Purchasing gas station gift cards in smaller denominations and using those for pay at the pump transactions
• Looking out for items that do not appear to belong on the gas pump and report them to the station staff
• Avoiding gas pumps with no tamper evident sticker
• Covering your pin number entry with your other hand at all pumps, ATMs, or store registers.
