Seymour police are inviting those with autism to a special meet and greet opportunity at the department.
April is Autism Awareness Month, so officers are asking to speak one-on-one with families next month to learn how they can better communicate and serve the needs of those with autism.
Officers have also gone through special training at Fox Valley Technical College.
"One of the things that we really learned from this process is when we communicate with them, that we communicate slower and give them time to process, so education and community connection is our total priority," said Police Chief Richard Buntrock.
The police chief says another goal through this initiative is to spread awareness of autism in the Seymour community.
They'll be offering the meet and greets through the entire month of April.
