U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson is set to deliver a prime-time speech at the Republican National Convention amid a heated race for his seat in Wisconsin.
A speaking schedule released Sunday showed Johnson would speak Tuesday night, a reversal from the senator's previous statements that he would stay home to campaign while party leaders gathered in Cleveland.
That move had been seen as a way for Johnson to distance himself from presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. Johnson has said he supports but does not endorse Trump.
Campaign spokesman Brian Reisinger says Johnson will focus his comments on the growing risk of international terrorism. Johnson and his opponent, Democrat Russ Feingold, have both focused on that issue in campaign ads released in the past week.
