Nearly one thousand people flocked to Green Bay today for the GOP's annual convention. To be expected the main talking point was unifying the party to get out and vote but also to get behind Senator Ron Johnson in his upcoming campaign.
Many republicans were hoping Trump would be part of the conversation at today's GOP convention. But you can count how many times the potential republican presidential candidate was mentioned this afternoon by name, with just one finger.
Speaker after speaker today talked about unifying the Republican Party before the upcoming election. But the dominant message was the party's backing of Senator Ron Johnson's reelection campaign.
"Together we will reelect Ron Johnson and we will re-reject Russ Feingold in November."
Even House Speaker Paul Ryan took a moment to address the press about his support for his fellow republican.
"Ron Johnson has been with us for nearly six years as a senator fighting for what we believe in and by the way he's a very effective senator," says Ryan.
And after Johnson accepted the nomination of senate from the party he talked to media about why he thinks he’s still a good fit for the position.
"We need economic growth and I have a pretty good sense on how we need to do that. Senator Feingold doesn't have a clue," says Senator Johnson.
He reflected on his experience as well in the private sector, which he believes makes him the standout candidate.
"It's gonna be a clear choice in this election. Someone like myself who has private sector experience, a citizen legislator, and manufacturer, someone who has grown a business knows how to grow business and as a result knows how to grow an economy," adds Senator Johnson.
Senator Johnson concluded his comments with media today by stating, “give us a little time, and we will have a unified party...”
