Senator Ron Johnson officially made an announcement today that he will be seeking re-election.

Johnson started the day in Oshkosh and made his way to Ashwaubenon to Fox Valley Metal- Tech, a manufacturing facility.

As part of the tour, Johnson made remarks about how he plans to make economic growth his number one priority., and how different he felt he was versus his opponent, Democrat Russ Feingold.

Senator Johnson says his manufacturing background makes him more in tune with Wisconsin voters and calls himself,

"...somebody who understands how hard business is, how the federal government makes it that much more difficult. Versus Senator Feingold who was there 18 years..."

This Senate race is a re-match of the 2010 election between Feingold and Johnson when Johnson un-seated then Senator Feingold, who served 3 terms.

Johnson also drawing attention to his announcement coming 6 months before the election where Feingold entered the race one year ago.

Russ Feingold's campaign responding to the announcement today, saying:

"We’re excited about this campaign, because it’s an opportunity for the people of Wisconsin to make a real change, throwing out a DC Republican insider like Senator Johnson and replacing him with someone like Russ that fights for them."

Feingold's campaign sees his early campaign bid as more time touring the state and speaking with voters, in the same statement saying:

"Senator Johnson has spent the last six years as a partisan shill who thinks our economy should only work for billionaires and CEO’s like himself. Russ is fighting for an economy that works for middle class and working Wisconsin families."

Recent polls from Marquette Law School show Feingold having 47% support from registered Wisconsin voters, and Johnson having 42%. Showing a tight race at this point by two candidates who have both previously held the position.
