Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) announced his support for Neil Gorsuch as a Supreme Court Justice to NBC26 Wednesday.
He says he plans to vote to confirm him when the nomination is brought to the floor in the U.S. Senate.
The announcement came after Johnson met with the nominee on Capitol Hill. Senator Johnson said he was confident Gorsuch would remain a judge, and not a "super-legislator."
Gorsuch is noted for his adherence to a legal theory known as originalism, a belief that the Constitution should be interpreted as originally written by the Founding Fathers.
For Johnson, that belief is key, saying judges should work to enforce the law, not create it.
Democrats have signaled increasing resistance to President Trump's first Supreme Court pick.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) refuted any attempt by Senate Republicans to change Senate rules to confirm Gorsuch without 60 votes in a news conference Wednesday.
, "Don't change the rules, change the nominee," Schumer said
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnel (R-KY) was adamant Gorsuch will be confirmed. He told CNN earlier this week that he will be confirmed April 7.
