Another round of school safety grants were awarded on Tuesday. This time, more than two dozen schools from Northeast Wisconsin received money to make their buildings safer.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice, the 40 schools and school districts received $2,895,658.
The money comes from the $100 million school safety grant passed by the Wisconsin state legislature earlier this year. Lawmakers drafted legislation after the shooting in Parkland, Florida.
District leaders can use the money for building security, training for staff and mental health resources for students.
The money cannot be used for hiring more school resource officers.
The DOJ says more grants will be awarded soon.
