The mother of the woman killed in a Manitowoc apartment fire last week is asking for help to cover funeral expenses.

Dana Bushman, 57, died in an apartment fire that also left nearly 100 others without a home.

Elaine Bushman, Dana's mother, wrote the following e-mail to The Salvation Army:

Hello, I am seeking financial help to pay for a funeral. My Daughter Dana Bushman, only 57, died in an apartment fire. She was a sweet gentle soul, and I am still in Shock. She had a minimal amount for living and food. It is left for me to pay for her funeral. I have nothing either. I live from SS check to check. I am trying to figure out how to get help. Thank you.

"This is not a need we could ignore,” said Lt. Jeff Olson, Salvation Army Commanding Officer. “We don’t have any resources available to us that haven’t come from the generous citizens of Manitowoc County. So we are asking again for your help Manitowoc County."

The Salvation Army of Manitowoc County has set up a separate fund to help pay for Bushman's funeral and has several ways to donate:

  • By mail, send a check to: The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1867, Manitowoc, WI 54221
  • Text ParviewDana to 41444 for a link to donate
  • Salvation Army Manitowoc Facebook Page
  • Donate online here and specify that it is for the funeral of Dana Bushman

If more funds are collected than needed to cover funeral expenses the balance will go to support the other residents of Parkview Haven.
