Rock USA boosts security

Posted

With everything happening around the world, safety is on everyone's mind. In Oshkosh this weekend, Rock USA organizers said they stepped up security to make sure concert-goers aren't put in harms way.

"We've always put security and fan safety as our number one priority," said Derek Liebhauser, Rock USA Vice-President.

This year, organizers have increased security once again.

"It makes me feel safe," said concert-goer Nathan Hamauer of Appleton. "At the end of the day, they like to bring everyone home safe."

The festival has a protocol and plan that it follows to ensure safety, according to Liebhauser. Before the festival begins, that plan must go through the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office, Winnebago County Emergency Management, and Oshkosh Police.

"When you start to approach 20, 30, 40,000 people per day, security becomes more difficult," said Liebhauser.

As crowds increase, working with other agencies becomes even more important. Rock USA has sheriff's deputies and police officers on hand, as well as its own security staff.

"We're bringing all the talents together and all the expertise, and the more people that we can get in on it, the more safe that we can make everyone," said Liebhauser.

Organizers can't give specifics about their security plan, but said it's always improving.

"We take extra steps and extra cautions based on the things that are going on in the world," Liebhauser explained. "Times are changing and we have to change with it."
