Cancer survivors and their families took part in the second annual "Ring That Bell" event Wednesday at Fox Valley Hematology & Oncology.

FVHO, the American Cancer Society and partners across the nation rang bells for one full minute to celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day, which falls on the first Sunday of June each year.

“Makes me want to cry,” said Dr. William Conkright with Fox Valley Hematology and Oncology. “I mean, it’s very emotional because we remember with each patient, when you see them now, they come to you, what they went through, them and their family.”

Ring That Bell was inspired by a tradition that takes place at cancer care facilities all over the country. The bells signify a turning point in the lives of cancer patients and represent the meaningful moment when their chemotherapy and radiation treatment ends.
