ASHWAUBENON, WI--- About $17 million in excess sales tax is coming back to Brown County. Each of the 24 municipalities were given their checks today at Ashwaubenon's Village Hall.
Now area communities will figure out how to spend the money.
“We can make use of that money. We better know where that money should go," say Ashwaubenon Village President Mike Aubinger.
“We're delighted. 5.3 million dollars is a lot of money," says Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt.
The remaining quarter of the money will go the county for redeveloping a key structure.
“The aging infrastructure that we have with the arena, and Shopko Hall and the hall of fame," says County Executive Troy Streckenbach.
Each municipality hopes to make a decision on what to do with the money by spring.
