Working the Holidays

ASHWAUBENON, WI----- WPS crews working to restore power to last few customers after high-winds knocked out electricity to about 8,000 strong gusts last night caused lines to fall.

Tonight workers are on the job during Christmas Eve.

‘It could be a mess out here if we're not here."

WPS crews worked around the clock since early Thursday morning.

“We called in as many people as we could starting in that midnight to 2am timeframe and a lot of our guys came in. We've got over 90 linemen out there working," says Ben Risch with WPS.

Meanwhile someone needs to patrol the highways.

"There’s really no room for error our here," says Sgt. John Jones with the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The Northeast region of the State Patrol has more than 10 troopers out.

"Unfortunately we still have crashes that occur; we still have impaired drivers," says Jones.

For them keeping people safe is a top priority no matter what day it is.
