Resource Room cutting down on crime in Fox...

An increase in police calls in recent years at the Valley Inn has the Town of Fox Crossing Police Department and the Valley Inn owner working together to cut down on trouble in the area.

They've worked together along with other community partners to develop a one of a kind idea, a resource room at the motel.

"I think it's really going to help and it's going to be a good asset for the hotel," said Valley Inn employee, Ann Bargender.

The room is set up with tables and chairs and information packets to help people find an apartment, get addiction help or financial guidance.  The purpose of the room is to help people transition out of living at the Valley Inn.

"Monthly motels are really an intricate part to people in poverty just because it can be that patchwork, it can be that bridge between when they get kicked out of one place and when they go to another," said Homeless Connections client services coordinator, Chris Lashock.

Homeless Connections is one of what will hopefully be many other organizations holding office hours in this room, but police say they're hoping to cut down on crime and calls to the building.

"20 to 25 percent are causing trouble," said Town of Fox Crossing officer, Jason Weber about the calls they get at the motel.

Weber says he's had nearly 200 calls a year to the motel in the past few years, which is an unusually high number.  He's hoping with the help of the Valley Inn owner that call volume could soon change.

"If we can make that change you know and get rid of that 20 to 25 percent you know and help those other people I think we can make that a good thing there," said Weber.

The goal is to have the Resource Room up and running with office hours and people there every day of the week, by June 1.
