It was a packed house at Badger State Brewing Thursday night for a talk about the homeless issue in Northeast Wisconsin.
It was called "Understanding Homelessness".
The issue was highlighted even more, back in May, when a Green Bay homeless man fell asleep in a dumpster and then was found dead in a garbage truck.
The man took shelter in the dumpster behind a church because the nearby homeless shelter was closed for the summer. It only takes overnight guests from November to the end of April.
Many people at Thursday's panel discussion say, the homeless issue has been overlooked in the past and it needs to be addressed.
"People who are homeless or are living in unstable or unsafe housing situations really aren't that much different than you and I" says Green Bay resident Ryan Sievert. "So I think that's important to remember that they are community members too."
Sievert also says according to research, Brown County has one of the higher rates of homelessness in the state of Wisconsin.
