Researchers are helping people in Kewaunee County with contaminated wells. It's a problem that's been going on for years. On Wednesday night, the results from a USDA microbiologist were presented to the public.
Over the past year and four months,131 wells were tested and 60 percent tested positive for contamination.
Water from the wells contained viruses and bacteria and the majority of it was from waste and cow manure.
Researchers also say there could be anywhere from two to nine hundred people who've gotten sick from the water.
After tonight's results, they're hopeful there will be a positive impact on Kewaunee's contaminated water.
Farmers are also hoping to get new ideas from the meeting.
The microbiologist says the next step is to publish a scientific paper that the county will see. They're confident it will help change policy and practices.
He also says if you need to treat contaminated water, reverse osmosis or ultraviolet light are the best options.
