Oshkosh Police have seen a rise in guns stolen from vehicles in 2017, the department said Thursday.
Out of 25 stolen gun reports in 2017, 15 were guns stolen from vehicles, police said. In comparison, there were only seven reports of guns stolen from vehicles in 2016 in the city.
Nearly all of the thefts from vehicles happened when the owner did not lock the vehicle and left the gun inside, police said. Most occurred overnight.
Police are reminding Oshkosh residents that although guns are a major concern, any valuable left inside a vehicle could be stolen by thieves.
