Reported Appleton robbery cleared as hoax

Posted

On Wednesday, April 6, the Appleton Police Department took three robbery reports. As reported on April 8, the department cleared two of those incidents by arrest.

The third reported robbery was alleged to have occurred in the alleyway between South Walnut and State streets. The reporting person told officers he was assaulted by a white male and four black males. The individual, who did have minor injuries, reported having a large amount of money taken from him during the assault.

The 29-year-old man, a resident of a local shelter, has been confined at the Outagamie County Jail on a charge of obstructing. He admitted making up the robbery to investigators to cover up a fight with a juvenile in Grand Chute.
