Funeral services announced for 12 year old Kaukauna boy, who died after being hit by a bus

The family of Justin Johnson announced funeral services will take place at 1:00 PM Monday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on that day. Members of the Kaukauna Area School District trauma Team will attend and be available for anyone who may need their services. The school district will also provide classroom coverage for any teacher or staff member who wishes to attend the services.

UPDATE 2:15 p.m. Sept. 7, 2016: On Tuesday, September 6, 2016 the Outagamie County Coroner's Office along with the Kaukauna Police Department and Wisconsin State Patrol responded for the death of a 12-year-old boy who was struck by a school bus in Kaukauna. Coroner Ruth A. Wulgaert identified the boy as Justin A. Johnson.

An autopsy was completed Wednesday by the Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner's office.

UPDATE Sept. 7, 2016: People in the community have started a memorial near the scene where a 12-year-old was struck and killed by a bus. 
 
A parent of a Kaukauna student told NBC26 that there are not enough crossing guards near the school and they want something done about it. In the short term, the parents say they will be acting as crossing guards to help students cross busy intersections.
 
The parent says her daughter was almost hit by a semi on her way home from school Tuesday. After the bus accident, she says she took her concerns to the city council meeting.
 
Kobussen Ltd. says the bus driver involved in the crash has been laid off pending the investigation.

UPDATE: Kaukauna Police say the boy involved in a school bus crash Tuesday afternoon, has died from his injuries.
 
The 12-year-old River View Middle School student was walking home from school when he was hit crossing the intersection of Crooks Avenue and Second Street. 

Kaukauna Area School District Superintendent Mark Duerwaecther issued a statement Tuesday night. 

"The Kaukauna Area School District is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our student, son, grandson, brother and friend, and we extend our heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends. Our focus right now is on supporting those close to the student, and our trauma team is working diligently to prepare support for students and staff. Counselors, psychologists and social workers will be on hand at each of our schools for as long as needed. Please join me in sending our thoughts and prayers to his family."

 
The Kaukauna Police Department is working with the Kaukauna Area School district to ensure students and staff of the Kaukauna Area School District receives the proper support and counseling.
 
The crash is still under investigation by the Kaukauna Police Department and Wisconsin State Patrol.

Kaukauna police report a middle school student was hit by a bus Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened at the intersection of Crooks Avenue and 2nd street just before 3:30 p.m.

The boy is in critical condition. Investigators ay the child was crossing 2nd street when he was hit. His identity has not been released.

Tuesday was the first day of the new school year in Kaukauna.
