Redgranite man found guilty of tax fraud

Posted

A Redgranite man has been sentenced to two years in prison for three felonies relating to a tax fraud scheme.

On January 4, Christopher D. Zindars plead guilty to felonies relating to fraudulently receiving $5,927 in state income tax refunds using fictitious W-2 forms.

According to the criminal complaint, Zindars obtained the money by electronically filing two false income tax returns in 2012 and 2013 from a business where he had been terminated for theft from in 2011.

A search warrant by the Wisconsin Department of Revenue in November 2015 led to the seizure of several computers, tax related documents and suspected drugs at Zindars' former residence.

The complaint also alleges that Zindars had the refunds electronically deposited into his bank account and used the proceeds to pay off personal debt and purchase two vehicles.

The three felonies Zindars plead guilty to are Unauthorized Use of an Entity's Identifying Information, Fraudulent Claim for Income Tax Credit, and Fraudulent Claim for Homestead Credit.

These criminal charges were filed by the Waushara County District Attorney's Office after an investigation and referral of charges by the special agents in the Office of Criminal Investigation for the Wisconsin Department of Revenue.

Zindars is currently being held in the New Lisbon Correctional Institution on unrelated drug charges.

He has been sentenced to two years in prison and two years parole.

Zindars must also pay restitution of $5,927 to the Wisconsin Department of Revenue.
