Committee leaders in Appleton say they're on board for a quiet zone.
Last night's committee vote unanimously approved the $800,000 renovation, and leaders say safety remains a top concern.
Vered Meltzer, an Appleton alderperson, says "the conductor would still have the freedom to lay on the horn whenever he felt there was someone on the tracks or some kind of unsafe situation."
One of the improvements, new medians, will prevent drivers from trying to cut through crossings. The final city council vote is scheduled for September 7th.
