TOWN OF MENASHA, WI---- There’s another push for stronger OWI laws in Wisconsin. A Milwaukee lawmaker wants ignition interlock devices for first time OWI offenders.
It's one of many bills aimed at keeping drunk drivers off the roads.
Jason Weber of the Town of Menasha Police Department says drivers can get around using ignition interlock devices.
“They will gladly put the IID in one vehicle when they know darn well that they have another vehicle that's ready accesible," says Weber.
Rep. Andre Jacque of De Pere, author of multiple drunk driving bills, has also introduced legislation to close that loophole.
“The ignition interlock restricted license will apply to any vehicle that the individual is supposed to be driving."
Jacque is also pitching legislation that would create stiffer penalties for social hosting and another bill that would consolidate offenses no matter the type of vehicle.
