A new Consumer Reports investigation finds prices of some drugs skyrocketing so fast that they're forcing more Americans to choose between filling a prescription or filling the food pantry.
"It affected their household incomes incredibly, in very distressing ways," says Consumer Reports Deputy Editor Lisa Gill. "People were reporting they weren't spending as much on groceries."
The investigation found 33 million Americans forked over $2 billion more to fill prescriptions last year.
Focus on the rampant rise of drug prices drew attention last year when drug company CEO Martin Shkreli arbitrarily jacked up one drug from $13 to $750 per pill.
