Police Use Of Force Down in Appleton

Appleton, Wi -- The Appleton Police Department has released its 2015 Uses Of Force Report. This year showing a decrease in force used by officers. Out of the over 48 thousand calls for service, forced was used in only 47. The ratio between service calls and force down 32%.

Most of the uses of force are passive countermeasures with only three stunning techniques used last year.

Officers crediting training as a big part of that decrease, from subject behavior evaluation to  what the department calls the use of force wheel.

“Lots of that training has invovlved integreation exercises and scenarios -- we're really teaching them how to use mediation” says Colleen Belongea with Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. She trains future officers everyday.
