The Neenah Police Department says it has received three more complaints from parents about possibly tainted Halloween candy.

They say one person threw away the questionable candy, but two others handed over their suspicious treats, so officers could inspect them.

"There appeared to be some possible tampering, maybe a foreign substance placed into a piece of candy, so we sort of left those alone. We didn't want tamper and put our own DNA into that," said Chief Kevin Wilkinson.

Police sent the candy to the State Crime Lab for analysis. Chief Wilkinson says it could take months before they get the test results back.

Neenah police say officers responded to a call from a person who found a nail in a piece of trick-or-treat candy.

The report says the incident happened somewhere east of Commercial Street, south of Division Street  and north of Cecil Street.

Officers say it appears to be an isolated incident and detectives are conducting interviews.

In Wood County, A mother called police to report finding an inch long nail inside a sour apple tootsie roll. No one was hurt according to officers in Wisconsin Rapids.

Neenah Police released a statement reminding parents to check their children's candy:

"Parents are key in this situation and we ask you check your children’s candy. If you notice a piece of candy that looks suspicious, please bring it to the Neenah Police and we will look at it for you. Also, as an option, please check with your family dentist to see if they would x-ray the candy for you."
