Police: Man killed at front door

Manitowoc Police are investigating a homicide on the city’s south side. It happened in the 2200 block of S. 9th Street at 5:31 a.m. on Friday.

A 52-year-old man, Kor Yang, answered a knock at the door, and was shot in the chest. The suspect fled the scene, and has not been identified or located at this time.

Four other family members were also home at the time, including the victim’s wife and 3 juvenile aged children. They were uninjured, and are cooperating with the investigation. 

The state crime lab and Wisconsin State Patrol are assisting in the investigation. The State Patrol is searching the perimeter for evidence.

The Manitowoc Police Department has applied for a search warrant for the residence, and will search once it is approved.Police don’t believe the public is in any danger, because the act appears to be targeted.

The Salvation Army is assisting the family members. 

The last homicide in Manitowoc was in 2001. Police say there is no connection to the Steven Avery case.
