The Titletown District is only two final approval votes away from construction after the Ashwaubenon Plan Commission gave the project PUD (Planned Unit Development) final approval on Tuesday. The plans still have to go through the Ashwaubenon Site Plan Review Committee and the Village Board one more time.
The only concern during the Plan Commission meeting regarding the Titletown District was a proposed sidewalk along Ridge Road beside the Lodge Kohler hotel. The Plan Commission decided to give final approval to the plans with the understanding that they will work with engineers to solidify a plan for the sidewalk before the PUD goes to the Village Board for final approval next week.
"I think the excitement is it's been talked about for so long and everybody's saying well what's going to happen?" said Ashwaubenon Village Trustee and Plan Commission member Gary Paul.
While it seems the plans are moving quickly, village leaders want to assure the public that these plans have been in the works for a long time and have been carefully reviewed.
"People think this is a quick fix, that we did this rapidly, but actually we started discussing this in 2009," said Village President Mike Aubinger.
Now, seven years later, construction on the Titletown District could begin in just a few weeks. The Ashwaubenon Site Plan Review Committee will have its final review on March 7th, and the Village Board will vote on final approval March 8th. If the plans are approved, construction could begin by mid-March. Even with final approval votes, minor changes could still be made as the plans progress.
