UPDATED July 25, 2016:

Shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday, a small aircraft on final approach at Wittman Regional Airport came down short of the south end of the runway, according to Dick Knapinski, EAA communications director.

Emergency personnel were dispatched and the single occupant of the aircraft was conscious and alert prior to being transported to Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah.

The crash closed the entire airport for about an hour. Shortly after 7 p.m., operations resumed until the airport’s normal AirVenture closing time of 8 p.m.

The pilot of the aircraft is 39-year-old Richard Maisano of Pennsylvania. His injuries are reported as non-life threatening. The aircraft was a Bristell constructed by BRM Aero FRO in the Czech Republic and owned by Sport Flying USA. It is registered in the Experimental/Light-Sport Aircraft category.

The NTSB and FAA continue their investigation into the crash.

The main runway at WIttman Regional Airport in Oshkosh was closed Sunday after a small aircraft came up short on the runway and crashed.

EAA spokesman Dick Knapinski says there was only one person on board and they were alert and conscious but taken to a hospital.

It happened on the north/south runway just after 6 PM.

The plane did not catch fire. The entire airport closed for about an hour and just after 7 PM the east/west runway reopened.

Normally, the airport closes at 8 PM so it is unclear if it will reopen again tonight.

Knapinski says the incident will not affect opening day tomorrow for EAA Airventure.

The FAA and NTSB are currently leading the investigation into what happened.
