The Oshkosh Police Department is investigating a fatal crash involving a vehicle and pedestrian at West 20th Avenue and Montana Street in Oshkosh.

The crash was reported to police at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The preliminary investigation showed a 78-year-old Oshkosh man was walking north across West 20th Avenue from Montana Street when a westbound pick-up truck on West 20th Avenue collided with the pedestrian in the westbound lane.

The 78-year-old man was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name is not being released pending notification of the family.

The pick-up truck driver remained at the scene.

The Oshkosh Police Department Crash Investigation Team is at the scene investigating the incident. West 20th Avenue is closed from Ohio to Oregon streets. This closure will be for several hours as the investigation continues.

Traffic, especially truck traffic, is asked to use the detour on Ohio Street to West South Park Avenue if traveling East; and on West South Park Avenue if traveling West.

Road updates will be released when it becomes available.
