A Green Bay committee Tuesday night unanimously approved a plan to pay a higher salary to the city's next mayor.
Mayor Jim Schmitt has made $82,500 since 2010, according to Alderwoman Barbara Dorff. Whoever is elected mayor in 2019 would make approximately $3,000 more and then see a raise of approximately $3,000 for three subsequent years, Dorff said. That would leave the mayor's salary just below $95,000, Dorff said.
Schmitt has said that he does not plan to run in next year's election.
The proposal now goes to the full council.
A previous plan called to boost mayoral pay by $11,000 per year through 2022, Dorff said.
That plan would have taken the city's mayor's pay to more than $126,500, but the proposal was changed to what was passed Tuesday, Dorff said.
