Packers Unveil Plans for Construction West of Lambeau Field

Posted
Inside the fence west of Lambeau Field, a lot is going on.

Besides The Lodge Kohler and Hinterland Brewery, a community space is in the works.

"I think it will be very crowded in particular on weekends probably but it's really designed, everything in the park is designed to be used every day and at different times of the day," said Packers vice president, Ed Policy.

The renderings show one of summer and one of winter and the activities will be different depending on which season it is.

"It's going to have different elements that are unique to the area kind of with a football theme I think will be popular," said Packers president and CEO, Mark Murphy.

The piles of dirt will give way to a space offering lots of outdoor community engagement that will vary with the seasons.

In summer the area offers a green hill for outdoor movies and concerts.  A plaza area for exhibits and picnics as well as an artificial turf football field and playground with sections for kids of different ages.

In the colder months the space transforms into a winter wonderland, offering sledding in individual lanes, an ice skating rink and skate trail as well as outdoor fire and indoor snack bar.

But there's more to come.

"The park ultimately will be approximately eight to ten acres and today we announced about six acres of that. We're going to leave the other two to four acres undesigned until we figure out what the rest of our development is going to be so we're trying to give ourselves a little bit of flexibility," said Policy.

The packers say they plan to do a formal ground breaking sometime in November and have phase one up and running by Thanksgiving 2017.
