Earlier this evening, the Outagamie County Board of Supervisors adopted County Executive Tom Nelson's 2017 budget.

This means the tax rate for Outagamie County taxpayers will fall for the second year in a row, resulting in a tax rate of $4.88 per thousand which is three cents lower than 2016.

The newly adopted financial plan was passed with minimal amendments after more than three months of deliberation with department heads, county board leaders, and jurisdictional and finance committee review.

"I am pleased with the board's overwhelming support," Nelson said.

The board voted 33-1 in support of the new budget.

The Outagamie Board says that Nelson worked hard with board leaders from the beginning to protect the county's coveted Aaa bond rating while maintaining and enhancing county services. They said they also worked together to limit the impact to the average property owner to below the rate of inflation.

"The Finance Committee took the time to listen to each department and understand their needs,"  said Finance Committee Chair Kevin Sturn. "While many departments could use additional resources, this is a fair and balanced budget."
