A 35-year-old inmate who was being held in the Outagamie County Jail since Jan. 7 committed suicide while alone in his cell earlier today, according to an Outagamie County Sheriff's Office press release.

Corrections officers found the inmate, who had used a bed sheet to hang himself, at about 2:12 a.m. during a routine check of all inmates. Corrections officers and medical staff immediately began CPR and paramedics were called to assist. However, all attempts to revive the inmate were unsuccessful.

The inmate was last checked at about 1:17 a.m. The inmate's identity will be released by the Outagamie County Coroner's office after relatives have been notified. An autopsy will be scheduled today by the Coroner's office.

The inmate was booked into the jail by his probation officer on a probation hold. Jail records show the inmate had been booked into the jail 28 times since 1997.
