The Oshkosh Police Department is investigating inappropriate conduct between a former soccer coach for Oshkosh West High School and students who attend the school, according to an Oshkosh Police Department press release. The former coach was arrested Sunday and is being held in the Winnebago County Jail.

On Nov. 3, an Oshkosh Police Department School Resource Officer was made aware of inappropriate conduct between a 23-year-old male soccer coach and students from the school. The 23-year-old man was the junior varsity-B boys soccer coach at Oshkosh West High School. His inappropriate conduct occurred during 2016 and included in-person comments and actions toward students as well as electronic messages from him to students.

The SRO conducted several interviews with the students, and also some adults, in reference to the former coach’s conduct. A search warrant was also conducted related to this investigation. Based on this investigation, the SRO discovered enough information to believe the man had exposed a child to harmful material and had committed second degree sexual assault, according to the press release.

School staff is notifying high school soccer students and their families. The police investigation is ongoing at this time even though an arrest has been made related to the case.

Anyone with information related to the situation is encouraged to contact SRO David Maas at 920-236-5700.
