A 20-year-old man from Oshkosh has been charged for allegedly physically abusing his infant daughter, accused of leaving her with broken bones and brain bleeds, according to Oshkosh Police.

Richard Root was charged with a felony count of physical abuse of a child in Winnebago County court Wednesday.

The father took the 2-month-old to Aurora Hospital last week, according to police. Due to the extent of the injuries, the baby was transported to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee via helicopter on March 3rd.

During the investigation and medical treatment, investigators found that the 2-month-old sustained at least 20 broken bones, including nine broken ribs, police said.

These injuries were in various stages of healing.

The child also had multiple brain bleeds and bruises on the face and head, according to police.

The child has since been released from Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee and is with a family member.

The judge ordered a $10,000 cash bond, and Root cannot have contact with his daughter. His preliminary hearing is set for March 16th.
