A woman and six dogs escape an apartment fire in Oshkosh. It broke out just after 5 p.m. Monday on North Main Street.
The woman living in the apartment says she was sleeping and woke up to flames and smoke. She says she and three of her dogs slid down an awning into the arms of people below. Firefighters rescued three more dogs. One dog did not make it out alive.
The fire victim was not injured. Some of her dogs suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation. One dog received treatment at a veterinary clinic. The other five are being cared for at the Oshkosh Area Humane Society.
Firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire. The cost of damages is being determined.
